Speaker Cables Review.
The gauge measure of any wire is a measure of the diameter of the wire. The same measuring system is used for speaker wire. For instance, 16-gauge speaker wire contains two wires (positive and negative polarities) of 16-gauge diameter each. This gauge is what I would consider the minimum gauge acceptable for wiring audio or home theater speakers.
Premium wire gauges range from 12 to 8 gauge. These are much larger diameter wires and are accordingly more expensive. These are the so-called "monster" cables. Their larger diameter decreases resistance within the trasnmission of signals through thew cable. The result is increased clarity and bass response when using these larger gauge wires.
