Review of Sharp Big Screen TVs.

Sharp Big Screen TVs . I have never been a big fan of Sharp products. For some reason, beginning early in my life, I associated their products with sub-par quality. I'm sure many people will now write to me and tell me otherwise, but it's just a connection in my head that has existed for 25 years. I can't exactly explain why, but it is certain that Sharp does suffer in reliability and performance compared to other leading electronics brands in the market. They do provide a cheap alternative, but not a choice I would make for myself.

I'll provide my ratings of Sharp big screen TVs, for one pick in each of three categories. Direct view (cathode-ray tube up to 40"), projection (up to 80"), and the newer plasma technology.

Sharp Big Screen TVs Direct View Pick

I'm actually not going to provide a pick for a Sharp direct view model. Frankly, there are much better options out there and Sharp does not provide HD-compatible options in this field. Look at another manufacturer.

Sharp Big Screen TVs Projection Pick

The Sharp 61RWP4H 61" 16:9 Projection HDTV is my projection TV pick. You may be hard pressed to actually find this specific model but Amazon.com may be the place to start. It is a very large unit at 61", and is very attractively priced, but it lacks compared to comparable models from leading brands. However, if you value price over performance you can not get much larger for the dollar. The 61" wide-screen rear-projection HDTV monitor delivers a beautiful 1080i high-definition picture. Sharp's proprietary DDFC1080T technology upconverts traditional video sources to high resolution picture quality. DDFC-1080T upconverts traditional analog video sources to high resolution picture quality. 10-Bit 3D-YC Digital Comb Filter less noise and clearer NTSC images. Smart Converge automatic calibration between convergence points makes convergence more accurate and easier than ever. TWIN-1080T lets you view two high resolution input sources simultaneously (HD, SD or 480i). 2 HD Inputs 2 component video input. Pro Adjustments fine-tune the picture to individual preferences.

Sharp Big Screen TVs Plasma Pick

The Sharp LC37HV4U AQUOS Super View LCD TV is actually an LCD model, but I've decided to include it here. Sharp plasma models are hard to find online. The screen of the Sharp LC-37HV4U is less than 3.2" thick! It combines its AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television teichnology with a widescreen 37" advanced LCD panel that is HDTV-compatible (720p) and PC-compatible. It comes with 2 separate speakers for 10 watts per channel stereo sound and a separate terminal (connector) box for convenient, streamlined appearance. Add an optional home-theater sound system and you're on a whole new level. Connectivity is standard for models in this class with 1 DVI and 1 RGB Input. It has 2 built-in cable TV compatible NTSC tuners allowing you to watch two programs side-by-side. Detachable stereo speakers and TV table stand are included. A PC input lets you connect your computer so you can cruise the internet, play games, or view your PC images on the 37" WXGA screen. It accepts an optional ATSC HDTV tuner.
