| Editorial Reviews: | | | | | For those who want the convenience of DVD and VHS playback in a single unit, JVC offers the HR-XVC12S DVD/VCR combo. For recording TV programs to VHS, the deck includes JVC's Timer Link, a quick and easy solution for recording TV programs by connecting to a cable or satellite set-top box using an AV cable. The user selects the desired program using the set-top box electronic program guide and timer function. JVC's Timer Link feature senses the signal, automatically powers up the recorder and begins recording. Recording automatically stops and the recorder shuts off when the program ends. JVC research shows that the vast majority of set-top boxes come equipped with a timer. Other HR-XVC12S features include multi DVD (-R/RW and +R/RW) and JPEG playback, a coaxial digital output and AV analog input. | |

| | Very grateful! Couldn't find this item in the stores (all out of stock) and I refused to get another brand, as I trust this brand so much. Never had a problem with my previous JVC dvd/vhs player, I just wore it out after 10+ years. JVC is a great brand. Overall transaction thru amazaon was fab! Never disappointed!

| | this unit does not have tuner, which means it can not connect with any TV antenna or cable connection directly. therefore, it can not work with most of the home setup. It says it can work with a special cable settop box. However, the title of the product does not say so clearly or explicitly. therefore, I had to go through the trouble to return this unit, wasted my time of having a useful VCR in time as I planned. Very disappointed with this purchase and this purchase experience.

| | I need a video recorder that has a built-in tuner. Not devices that require a converter box that costs money per month to rent from a cable company.
