| new macbook? this is a must! | |

With the lack of firewire 400 on the new macbooks this adapter is a must for everyone. Small and extremely portable it's very useful when you don't have a 400to800 cable around.

I purchased the 400-800 (9 pin to 6 pin) adapter to make it possible to hook up my new MacBook Pro to a 20" Apple Cinema Display. The adapter was necessary because Apple does not make such a product and every other option that I looked at was either not available or no longer being produced. After an extensive internet search and several minutes with the help line at Apple I came across this product offered by Amazon. It was the least expensive and the smallest alternative available. I've never needed a 9 pin to 6 pin firewire adapter before but just today I discovered another application for this product. I hate swapping adapters from one piece of equipment to another so I'm ordering another one to keep around for those times that I find that it is the only solution to some problems that sneak up on you. This is the only 400 female to 800 male adapter that I have been able to find.

I recently obtained a complimentary,new edition Mac Book Pro after my older Powerbook kept requiring the same repair. I didn't realize that a new firewire 800 port is standard with the new computer, so this adapter became absolutely necessary for me to use with Firewire 400 accessories that are only one or two years old (e.g. external speakers and hard drive). The product is necessary and performs the necessary trick.

I wish that I didn't need this adapter. But, I have enough older external hard drives, minidv cameras, and an audio interface that all require firewire 400. This was cheaper than a 9-6 cables, and it works.
