Editorial Reviews:
d_skin Protective Disc Skins are a totally new, totally necessary product that acts as a protective Skin for all your favorite discs. Once your discs are skinned, there is nothing to take off to play your discs, nothing to put on when you store your discs - one product protects them all the time! How do you use them? Just snap one of these onto your music, movie, game or data CDs and consider them protected. The amazing Liplock Seal snaps onto the edge of any standard size disc and holds tight. Leave your d_skin Protective Disc Skin on while you play away - outside and inside your media players. Seriously. Your discs are totally readable right through the Skin. The beauty is, once your discs are skinned, if you scratch them, you just toss the damaged Skin and snap on a fresh one. Your entertainment survives!!
Whether you're cautious with your CDs to the point of paranoia or you toss them casually across the room when finished, chances are a few of your music, movie, or game discs have nasty scratches. Enter the d_skin protective disc skins, which seal directly onto your compact discs, DVDs, games, or data discs to defend them permanently from harm. The skins' transparent coating forms a protective barrier around your discs, making them virtually impervious to scratches. At the same time, game consoles, CD players, DVD players, and computers can still read the discs perfectly, so you never have to remove the skin. There's nothing to take off when playing the discs, and nothing to put on for storage. Even better, you can now watch your favorite movies without fear of untimely blips or skips. Should a skin itself get scratched, users can just remove it and snap on a fresh one. The d_skins are so reliable, you just might consider letting your friends borrow your CDs again--even the guy who believes jewel cases are for weenies. This d_skin bundle comes with five skins.

These are fine, just make sure you understand what they do...
3 out of 5 stars.
I've used these for a little while (about a year) and they work just fine. I've been using them to protect game CDs/DVDs that I'm actively using (and thus aren't in protective cases). As long as you're careful with them and don't use them in a messy environment (they only protect from dust and dirt you don't allow into them), they work fine as directed.

People have complained about issues but I think it depends on the quality of the equipment you're using and how you've treated these suckers. For the most part, I've been using them on a PC. As mentioned by others, you can't really use these with anything that actually grabs the disk--it's for tray-loaders only. You also need to check the edges as I've had a little fun with a CD when one of the clasps wasn't fully seated and it created a nice racket until I ejected it again.

Obviously, the best way to keep your disks clean and scratch free is to keep them in their protective cases and handle them carefully. Given the way DVDs I've rented look, a lot of people don't do this. If you're one of them, you'll ruin these things as well (they're intended as disposable protectors...you aren't expected to use these things for years and years necessarily).

Take it for what it is...a cheap way to protect your disks from standard wear and tear (read: a lot of manhandling and such) while in use, like if you're playing a game or something for a few weeks. If you pull a DVD out once in a while to watch a movie, don't bother with these. Just be careful.

Great! Just don't have the wrong expectations

I bought these for my exercise DVD collection. I keep them all in a large dvd case. I was so worried about them falling out, getting scratched and having to be replaced. Some of my disks were quite expensive. I bought these for protection. It fits right on the dvd and is like a little protective cover for peace of mind. They never fall off so no worries there.
For where the complaints come in... actually playing the dvd. I'd say 60% of the time they play without a hitch. 20% of the time I didn't have it snapped all the way on and there was a tiny loose part causing trouble. All you have to do is run your fingers pressing around the edge and you'll find it if that is the problem. It will snap on. The remaining 20% of the time it will not seem to catch properly in the DVD player.. maybe it is not sitting in there right because of it. I then usually pop the D-skin off to play and replace it when it goes back into the case. This did not upset me as much as others here. Still I think it is well worth it if you want to protect your investment. They are also cheaper on ebay. I got 100 d-skins for around $30. I had plenty for my dvds plus extras for replacements which I have yet to need them for. It would be nice if they could "perfect" this invention. But till then I'll still use these!

Does not work on XBox 360

Just a head's up - these do not seem to work on the XBOX 360 game system. The 360 is notorious for scratching disks (regardless of Microsoft postings, this happens even when the system is IMMOBILE). I thought these would protect the $60 games I bought, but the system will not read them. DO NOT BUY!

Is a godsend for idiots that don't have the common sense to take care of their CDs. however, for us regular folk these discs are too risky for use on our discs. I applied one to my San Andreas disc and it loads, but I can't leave the savehouse. the sound is distorted and it takes a while for the system to load.

Poor Performance
1 out of 5 stars.
Definitly needs more research. When applied the DVD skip, are pixilated and other video problems. If the materieal were elastic, made to stretch over the disk to prevent wrinkles, it might be a good product. As it is, I don't think these should even be sold.

UPDATE: When I emailed the company with my dissapointment, I recieved a response within 30 minutes! They asked me questions about the batch number, DVD unit I use and then sent me another set of D-Skins which, up to this point, I have had no problem with.
