The 2-way speakers would suitably fill out your home theater with surround sound, enliven your dorm or apartment with music, or provide gentle background ambience in your bedroom or business. The speakers are magnetically shielded for distortion-free placement near your television or computer monitor. | Great "front" speakers for surround | |
| | I needed new front speakers for my digital 5.1 surround system. These BIC's fill the bill quite nicely. My system includes a subwoofer, so I'm not missing any bass response. But if you use your stereo only for music, you'll want to consider a good equalizer to enhance bass. These are good speakers for a smallish family room, a bedroom, or dorm room. I can also recommend the BIC America DV52CLRB center channel speaker. My 5.1 system's sound improved notably when I changed to the 3 BIC America speakers across the front.

| | The Bic DC62si speakers represent very good value. They provide lots of volume with adequate clarity, and they sound quite different, depending on what amplifier I have used. Two amplifiers I no longer connect them to are a Harman-Kardon receiver and an AudioSource Amp 300. I now have them connected to a discontinued Carver THX amplifier rated at 180+ watts per channel, with an old but very good Carver preamp. The Carvers are very smooth and eliminate much of the raspiness (i.e., distortion), that I hear with the two other amps.
[Important to note that I also use a dedicated 20-amp outlet for all of my amps, because any transient worth its salt will draw close to the 15 amp limit of the normal household outlet, eliminating any "headroom." The 20 amps definitely make a difference. Also, any speakers I have are mounted on stands away from rear and side walls.]
The BICs are very sensitive and require very little volume on most musical source material (my choices are always either classical or jazz, not rock). So it is possible to overdrive them, but not at normal listening levels. And at these normal levels, it's possible to have a large, satisfying sound stage in my listening area, which is your typical L-shaped apartment living/dining area. Pay attention to BIC's recommendations on speaker placement, and you will hear pretty good sound. My other speakers include a pair of EPOS M5s and a now discontinued ATC SCM-10. At $650 and $1,500 per pair respectively, the differences do emerge quite clearly. In particular, Billy Woodman's SCM speakers are famous for being nearly free of distortion and smooth over their rated frequency ranges, which in his affordable models do not include much bass response. Room-filling sound you do not get with either the EPOSs or the ATCs. Listening up close in particular is mandatory for the SCMs (SCM stands for Studio Control Monitor).
All in all, if you are willing to tolerate some frequency discoloration and harmonic distortion--which are present in all speakers, to some extent-- but still obtain a valid stereo sound stage, the BICs are impossible to beat at their price, IMHO. You would have to go way up in price to better them sonically, and this would involve choosing more costly matching components as well.

| Old school two channel system with these BICs, terrific sound! | |
| | The bass is quite robust, while the highs and mids are crisp. Hooked up to an Onkyo 8222 (with 50 watts each channel), these BICs sound terrific, whether you're listening to rock, instrumentals, or NPR. The speaker build is solid as well, durable enough to survive a cross-country move this past summer. Also of note, when purchased a couple years ago, the price was about one hundred bucks for a pair, which remains unchanged today. A superb buy overall.

| | Have owned these for a little over a year,sound as good as speakers for 6X
the price.I compaired these with many speakers in a simular price range locally and these came in 2nd place.The Insignia NS-B2111 from Best Buy was my favorite overall but unfortunatly they were not magnetically shielded.Pass on the x-over mode hype,after a short break-in period they sound great.Very highly recommended.

| | We needed a small set of speakers for our 10 x 10 exercise room but didn't want to spend a lot of money or give up sound quality. These marvelous little speakers fit the bill on both counts.
