However, the reason this unit is a STAR is the technology that allows the rear satellite speakers to function without a speaker cable connection. This is one of the few, readily available, affordable systems on the market with 2 wireless rear satellite speakers. Installation and hookup is greatly simplified since the trouble of running and hiding speaker wires to the 2 rear speakers is avoided.Some people call the Philips LX3750W Home Theater System a gimmick, others claim it is wasted in this system because the entire package is slightly underpowered at 50 watts per channel, including a 50 watt powered subwoofer. I would even dare to call this a mini-system. It can probably only be realistically used in small living rooms, for fear of being washed out and the receiver forced to play at unrealistically high levels beyond its capability. The progressive scan DVD player can play CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and MP3 media formats. The receiver can decode Dolby Digital and DTS formats.
