Review of Philips Big Screen TVs.
Philips Big Screen TVs
. Philips is an often overlooked electronics brand. Philips is also often incorrectly spelled "Phillips". Perhaps this is the reason they are not more successful in the market. People don't know how to spell their name! They are comparably priced to the offerings from leading manufacturers but suffer when it comes to ease of use of their units, particularly the remote control. Menus and features are sometimes confusing and not intuitive during use. Otherwise their televisions have repectable performance and medeiocre reliability.
I will give my ratings of Philips big screen TVs, for one pick in each of three categories. Direct view (cathode-ray tube up to 40"), projection (up to 80"), and the newer plasma technology.

Philips Big Screen Direct View Pick
The Philips 36PT842H 36-Inch HDTV Monitor with 2-Tuner PIP is my direct view pick for the Philips brand. It is a good, affordable HDTV monitor. The direct view display offers a true HD 1080i display, with widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio and fullscreen 4:3 display modes (HD decoder required for HD reception). Through the 36" flat picture tube you can view the two-tuner picture-in-picture capability. Connectivity is excellent with stereo AV inputs, S-Video, headphone jack, rear stereo AV inputs/outputs (CVI and S-Video), and two HD component inputs.
Philips Big Screen TVs Projection Pick
The
Philips 60PW9363 60" Widescreen Rear-Projection HDTV Monitor is capable of producing a full 1050i signal via optional digital set top box. Display Format Conversion ensures that you see the image the way you want it - no matter what the source. The Philips HD Optics system includes micro phosphor CRTs, hybrid projection lenses, first surface mirrors, fine pitched lenticular screens and Philips Wideband Video ampifier. Connectivity is good with 3 S-Video inputs.
Philips Big Screen TVs Plasma Pick
The Philips 42FD9954 42-Inch Flat Color Plasma TV Monitor delivers vivid color, flicker-free images, HDTV display capability and a very wide viewing angle (160°). At less than 4" deep, it will fit most anywhere.
The Philips 42FD9954 replaces the conventional picture tube with a system of charged gases trapped between glass surfaces. These gases react with red, green and blue phosphors, creating a flicker-free picture alive with detail and color, viewable from anywhere within a 160° span. The screen is widescreen format at 16:9 aspect ratio. Connectivity is excellent with analog and digital inputs, including VGA, SVGA and XGA. Optional HDTV external tuner unit (PHI FTR9952) allows digital picture enhancement, dual screen PIP (Picture-in-Picture), and multiple viewing modes. Dual HD Component input and full 1080i (1024 x 1024) resolution display.
Philips Big Screen TVs, some of the best.
