Panasonic SC-PT760 Review

The Panasonic SC-PT760 home entertainment system has a lot of great features. It is a 1000 watt, 6 speaker system that has a five disc DVD/CD player along with other wonderful features. Another feature is the wireless rear speakers. Fewer wires mean less clutter. Its whisper-mode surround produces a rich sound even when the volume setting is low. It also has a 1080p up-conversion function that will take standard images from video sources and convert them to high definition images. The result is an exceptionally sharp and clear high resolution picture to enjoy. Panasonic also offers an optional kit of wireless speakers that can be placed in other rooms, so you can listen to music around the house. It has a built in Universal dock for an iPod which will enhance your video and music options.

The system includes 2 tallboy front speakers, 1 center speaker, 2 surround speakers and a Kelton subwoofer. It has Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic and DTS decoders and an integrated Universal Dock for iPod. Another great feature is the Viera link display which gives you the ability to pick movies or music that are stored on your iPod and remotely select one and begin to listen or watch that selection. The system measures 16.7” Wide x 13” Deep x 3 High and weighs 45 pounds.

Every system has an issue of some kind or another. No matter how hard manufacturers try to make the perfect system that pleases everyone, somebody will find something that could be better. This system is a great system but some reviews have said that the wireless back speakers are not completely wireless. The speakers must be wired to a wireless receiver and that is plugged into an outlet. Another issue is the volume settings; there are only four and that could be an issue for condo or apartments consumers, because the neighbors are close enough to hear even the lowest volume setting. The number of inputs is also a concern.

Nonetheless the Panasonic SC-PT760 is a fantastic system. It is easy to set up, the sound is sensational and the iPod deck is a bonus. The quality, price and performance are worth the investment. The competition in this price range include the Panasonic SC-PT660 which doesn’t have the wireless rear speakers and the SC-PT960, which has the same features as this system plus 2 tallboy tower speakers up front.

The Phillips, Samsung and Sony systems in this price range, don’t offer wireless speakers and the overall design of those systems is not as user friendly as the buttons and labels that are displayed on the Panasonic SC-PT760 model. The remote on the Panasonic system lets you adjust the volume of each speaker, but base and treble controls on the Panasonic are: Flat, Heavy, Clear and Soft, instead of the more sensitive settings of its competitors.

The bottom line is this home entertainment system is a good one. It will give you the performance you expect for the money invested, in fact it will do better than that.
