Review of JVC Big Screen TVs.

JVC Big Screen TVs . I will be honest with you. JVC is not my favorite electronics brand. No particular reason, no particular rhyme. However, without giving details, I think it would be appropriate for me to say that there are better brands and options out there today. I just haven't seen an equal effort from JVC over the past decade in their television technology, compared with other manufacturers. They are one of the leaders in VCRs, CD players and perhaps camcorders, but we're talking TVs here. Some will disagree, but this is my opinion.

I will give my ratings of JVC big screen TVs, for one pick in each of three categories. Direct view (cathode-ray tube up to 40"), projection (up to 80"), and the newer plasma technology.

JVC Big Screen Direct View Pick

The JVC AV36DF74 36-Inch Real Flat Stereo TV features dual tuner PIP, dual component video inputs, and S-Video Inputs. It also has 3 AV Inputs (2 Rear, 1 Front), an illuminated universal remote w/DVD control capability. I won't push the issue but there are better options out there in terms of performance and price. However, if JVC is your brand of choice, and you are looking for a cathode ray direct view TV set, don't look further than this offering from JVC.

JVC Big Screen TVs Projection Pick

The JVC AV56WP74 56" Widescreen Rear-Projection HDTV Monitor with DVI Input and 2-Tuner PIP is a fair choice. It features natural progressive technology which doubles image data in each field and uses advanced 3D interpolation to display a solid image with no visible scanning lines. It has 2-tuner picture-in-picture, dual auto-sensing component video inputs for the best-possible picture quality from compatible sources. Connectivity is excellent with 3 S-video inputs (1 front, 2 rear) and 4 A/V inputs (1 front, 3 rear). An illuminated universal remote with DVD control is included. It is able to display all video sources at 1080i although standard-definition, enhanced-definition and high-definition digital television monitors require an optional set-top box to decode over-the-air digital TV broadcasts.

JVC Big Screen TVs Plasma Pick

I would provide my pick for a JVC plasma TV model here, but for the life of me I can't find any available online for sale. So if I did pick one, you wouldn't be able to buy it. Try and find the JVC GD-V501PZU 50" Plasma Flat Screen TV. The GD-V500PZU is the latest member of JVC's family of high-performance plasma display monitors. A big 50-inch display delivers high-resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It is XGA compatible (for computers) to handle high resolution graphics, has a 3000:1 high contrast ratio, bright picture (300 cd/m2) and can display up to 16 million colors. Frankly, it is not the best offering in the plasma TV market. There are cheaper and better performers out there. Again, if JVC is your brand and you want JVC big screen TVs - Go for it.
